MAKES 2 CUPS / PREP: 10 MINUTES, PLUS 30 MINUTES TO CHILL / TOTAL: 40 MINUTES
We already know that boiled or baked seafood is one of the lowest-calorie ways to eat protein, plus you get all those brain- and heart-healthy omega-3s. But you don’t have to eat it plain. Adding a little seafood sauce, rich with flavor from fresh lemon and horseradish, can take your seafood from boring to a zesty party in your mouth.
1½ cups catsup (free from high-fructose corn syrup)
2 tablespoons grated horseradish
Juice of 1 lemon
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Chili Powder (here)
¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 In a small bowl, mix to combine the catsup, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, and pepper. Refrigerate, covered, for at least 30 minutes or overnight to let the flavors meld.
2 Serve with shrimp cocktail, oysters, grilled scallops, or other seafood.
Post-op tip: Use this as a base to enjoy your favorite seafood selections on the pureed diet.
