Clinical Calculations Made Easy: Solving Problems Using Dimensional Analysis, 3rd Edition

Case Study 6. Deep Vein Thrombosis

A patient is admitted to the hospital with right leg erythema and edema to R/O DVT. The orders from the physician include:

· Bed rest with right leg elevated

· Warm, moist heat to right leg with Aqua-K pad

· Doppler ultrasonography

· Partial thromboplastin time (PTT) and prothrombin time (PT)

· IV D5W/½ NS with 20 mEq KCl at 50 cc/hr

P.218

· Heparin 5000 units IV push followed by continuous IV infusion of 1000 units/hr

· Lasix 20 mg IV bid

· Morphine 5 mg IV q4h

Identify the orders that require calculations.
